The ITS-A Global Summit is one of the premier events on the Australian transport calendar, and in the 2026 edition it’s main theme was a celebration and presentation of 10 years of iMOVE’s history and innovation.

Collaboration has long been a driving force for industrial innovation, including in Australia’s transport sector. In hundreds of cases across Australia, that collaboration has been delivered through iMOVE Australia, the nation’s national centre for transport and mobility research and development.

The Global Summit 2026 was held in Melbourne from 22–24 September 2026, and brought together more than 250 presentations over 50 sessions.

iMOVE Managing Director Ian Christensen said partnership and collaboration has been at the heart of the organisation’s success.

We are very proud of the achievements of our partners since 2017,’ said Mr Christensen.

We have grown from 44 partners to more than 70, and the levels of activity and outputs delivered have been extraordinary: 317 projects to date and a projected R&D spend of over $100 million from an original $70 million. This reflects the dedication and commitment of organisations Australia-wide to work together, find solutions to challenges, and advance the sector for the benefit of all.

ITS Australia has been an active participant in the iMOVE Cooperative Research Centre, contributing to research that has informed policy, accelerated technology adoption and strengthened Australia’s intelligent transport systems sector.

ITS Australia Chief Executive Officer Susan Harris said the event provided an opportunity for the industry to acknowledge iMOVE’s lasting impact.

We’re really proud to have played a part in helping iMOVE advance research in areas including road user charging, freight, connected and automated vehicles, data, sustainability and mobility, creating lasting benefits for Australia’s transport network.’ said Ms Harris.

As iMOVE approaches the conclusion of its program, we’re proud to help celebrate its remarkable contribution to Australia’s transport technology industry and the tireless work the team has done to help shape the future of transport.

Plenary presentations

As part of its strong presense at the ITS Australia Global Summit 2026, two of the plenary sessions were presented by iMOVE.

In the first, panel members look back at the role of iMOVE in their organisations over the past 10 years. Moderated by iMOVE Managing Director Ian Christensen, the panellists included:

  • Miranda Blogg – Department of Transport and Main Roads (Queensland)
  • Scott Fennelly – Main Roads Western Australia
  • Sherri Fields – Transport for NSW
  • Tari Jain – Department of Transport and Planning (Victoria)

In the second recorded video, iMOVE Managing Director Ian Christensen, and Michael Comninos, Director at the Astrolabe Group, discuss future directions and possibilities for Australian transport systems.

iMOVE project presentations

In a demonstration of the wide variety of work iMOVE has been involved in over its decade of innovation more than 30 papers associated with iMOVE projects were presented at the Summit. A list of the papers and presenters is provided in the table below.
