Cummins AEOS electric truck unveiled
Diesel and natural gas engine make Cummins Inc. has beaten Tesla and others to the punch with the unveiling of an electric truck concept, called the AEOS.
Vehicle specifications
Cummins’ AEOS Concept Class 7 Urban Hauler EV is powered by a 140 KWh battery pack, which is approximately the same weight as a truck of this size would be its with a 12-litre engine, transmission, and fuel tank. In this battery configuration, paired with a trailer that has a gross vehicle weight rating limit of 34,000 kilograms, on a full battery it has a range of 160 kilometres. With additional battery packs that range extends to just over 480 kilometres.
Helping out on the battery front is a regenerative braking system, and solar panels on the roof. The Cummins AEOS has also been made more aerodynamic with its side mirrors replaced by a in-dash camera system.
Cummins also plans to produce a hybrid version of the AEOS with its B4.5 or B6.7 diesel engines paired with the range-extending, lower-emission battery pack.
The Indiana-based Cummins company has not jumped from being an engine maker to a full truck maker, instead it has worked with the prototyping and manufacturing expertise of Roush Industries.
When will the Cummins AEOS electric truck go into production?
When might you see a real, not concept, Cummins AEOS roll off the line? The company is hoping for a 2019 production version.
