ITS Monday: Edition 1, 2020
Welcome to the first edition of ITS Monday, a weekly, small collection of curated content from the worlds of intelligent transport, smart mobility, and associated areas.
The idea behind ITS Monday was in part driven by our ITS Weekly Roundup, an email newsletter we send each Friday (subscribe to that here, plus/or our monthly iMOVE newsletter). That newsletter contains a substantial number of links, and sometimes I think interesting content could be lost in the mix. I also see quite a lot of interesting content on social media (yes, you can follow us on Linkedin and Twitter). So every week I’ll collect a few things, and put them in ITS Monday.
Before you scroll down the page and see what’s included this week, a note about the curation. Inclusion in ITS Monday does not equal iMOVE endorsement. It’s more aimed at discovery, thought, or discussion … or all of those and more. And while for the most part I expect content to be current, a little age does not mean diminished interest.

New book, The 30-Minute City: Designing for access
Written by the University of Sydney’s David Levinson, not only introduces the concept, but is a how-to-implement manual. Toyota has announced plans to build a prototype city of the future, called Woven City, on a 175-acre site at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan.
“Building a complete city from the ground up, even on a small scale like this, is a unique opportunity to develop future technologies, including a digital operating system for the city’s infrastructure. With people, buildings and vehicles all connected and communicating with each other through data and sensors, we will be able to test connected AI technology… in both the virtual and the physical realms… maximising its potential,” said Akio Toyoda, president, Toyota Motor Corporation.

Scooters … they’re so hot and controversial right now! This article tells of an 18-month research project between Ford and Virginia Tech, using scooters equipped with gyroscopes, accelerometers, and forward-facing cameras to collect data on how the scooters are being used. The goal? Creating ‘some kind of guide’ to the safe deployment of scooters.
