The big idea: should cars be banned from cities?
There’s a few stories on this topic this week. This first article is from the UK edition of The Guardian, and is written by Thalia Verkade and Marco te Brömmelstroet, authors of Movement: How to Take Back Our Streets and Transform Our Lives. “Streets have been optimised for one thing: traffic. A kind of ‘urban rewilding’ could return them to the complex social ecosystems they once were.”

This article also emanates from the UK, this time from the UK edition of Wired. “Removing cars from urban areas means lower carbon emissions, less air pollution, and fewer road traffic accidents. So why are residents so resistant?”

Story number three about car-free cities is a little closer to home, a tale of an information on the plan to pedestrianise central Wellington, New Zealand. Consultations have been had, amendments made, artist images depicted, all awaiting feedback on this latest set of thoughts and designs.

Hydrogen car sales predicted to take off, pushing EVs, as Auckland trial begins
Predicted is the key word here in this story from New Zealand, with the (global) numbers mentioned in the article taken from a new report by UK-based Juniper Research. The article then takes up the status of trials, fuel infrastructure and more in New Zealand itself.
