The value of rail 2025: The rail industry’s economic and social contribution to Australia
The link here is to a direct download of the Australian Railway Associaion report.
“The rail industry is a key pillar of Australia’s economy, generating nearly $40 billion in gross domestic product and supporting around 200,000 jobs in 2024, both directly and indirectly.
This represents a 30 per cent increase in industry value added and a 14 per cent rise in employment since 2019. Overall, rail has outperformed the broader economy’s growth in jobs and output. Rail’s growth is powered by the industry’s breadth, namely passenger and freight rail, manufacturing and repair, supply chain services and construction, all of which support economic growth and national productivity.”
