2018 ATA Fatigue Management Hackathon open for entries
In April the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) is running fatigueHACK as part of its annual conference in Canberra. The aim is to bring innovative thinkers together to attack the problem of driver fatigue in the Australian trucking industry.
Driver fatigue in the trucking industry is a serious issue, not just for the drivers, but for all road users. At the moment drivers fill out forms and logbooks with pen and pencil, and it is very much a one rule for everyone situation. fatigueHACK is looking for smart, 21st Century solutions to eliminate the problems associated with fatigue, and also to tailor them to suit individual drivers’ needs.
And it’s about more than creating a law, policy, or process:
“It’s time to find a more innovative solution. A voluntary solution that can help drivers recognise and manage their own personal fatigue.”
When, where, and how?
fatigueHACK will take place from 18-20 April 2018, at the National Convention Centre, Canberra. Teams can enter in either of the hackathon’s two streams: policy or technical.
The competition will be limited to 15 teams, containing a minimum of three members, and a maximum of seven. Contestants must be over 18 years of age.
Judging criteria is as follows:
- Creativity – Innovative design and usability.
- Usability – How easy is it to use? Is it intrusive to a driver?
- Viability – Capacity to operate and be sustainable.
- Completeness – Readiness to launch and compliance with regulations.
- Impact – impact of the solution on addressing the problem.
- Pitch -Audience engagement.
The top three teams as judged will pitch their ideas to delegates and industry leaders at the national ATA conference on Friday, 20 April. They will compete for the $10,000 prize pool, with $5,000 for 1st prize, $3,000 for 2nd, and $2,000 for 3rd.
