Transportist: Road Pricing Redux
The latest from Professor David Levinson‘s Transportist blog, produced as it’s wont of late with the help of CHATGPT4. In this he reacts to the recent news that NSW is re-opening (?) the topic of road charging with the establishment of a new toll road review.
“The inquiry has already ruled out a Congestion Charge (an extra charge for driving to or through the CBD on all roads, not just motorways), and presumably more general Road Pricing (charging for the use of all roads). It seems open to time-of-day pricing differences (or dynamic (congestion varying real-time pricing, though I am far less keen on that, as it reduces price reliability for travellers.).”

The recommendation that some people work from home has again been uttered by a politician. This time in Victoria, specifically Melbourne’s western suburbs, and this time it’s not because of a virus, it’s because of roadworks.

“Brisbanites could become the latest Australians to commute on electric ferries after the local council revealed plans to launch a $435,000 study into the zero-emission vessels. If approved, the battery-powered catamarans, dubbed EVCats, could transport up to 80 passengers around a bend in the Brisbane River between Bulimba and Teneriffe.”

Electric vehicles in Australia. Over the last 12 months sales have gone up, and with this news, the price is beginning to come down. Japanese EV maker BYD held a launch this week of its Dolphin EV, which of course took place at Sea World on the Gold Coast.
