Qantas flight data app increases flight efficiency
FlightPulse was designed by pilots for pilots.
Qantas, in partnership with GE Aviation, has developed an app to be used in-flight to help its pilots fly more efficiently.
The app is called FlightPulse, and factors in all manner of flight and environment data to present optimum performance from the aircraft. Factored into the app is:
- operational data (flight logs, flight plans and load sheets)
- weather data
- trajectory correction
- navigation databases and terrain data
All this information was previously available, but was analysed post-flight. With FlightPulse its in real-time, and at the pilots’ fingertips.
“FlightPulse was designed by pilots for pilots. As a result, the information accessible on this platform helps them understand the operational efficiency of their flight,” said Qantas Head of Fleet Operations, Captain Mike Galvin.
“It provides pilots with flight data in a very visual way, allowing them to see first hand the amount of fuel used at different stages of a flight and how they can help to reduce carbon emissions.”
