Success through many steps
Wasn’t COVID wonderful?! In a single hit it ‘solved’ both our traffic congestion and carbon emission problems. I’m joking. of course. COVID solved our intractable transport challenges because it stopped transport altogether for a time.
Unfortunately, there are no silver bullet solutions to our current challenges in transport. Transport’s complexity and interdependencies demand a more incremental approach.requiring patience and stamina in order to achieve progress by numerous small improvements that aggregate over time.
iMOVE is pleased to provide support to the many efforts underway to find and implement improvement steps. At the moment we see efforts in many places being directed towards three big aspirations:
- Improved service levels and network performance (including reduced congestion) though better use of data;
- Reduce carbon emissions through vehicle choice, mode shift, and community behaviour change; and
- Delivering good traveller experiences particularly for travel choices we want to encourage.
iMOVE seeks to contribute to this progress through projects undertaken with our partners to:
- Encourage the electrification of transport and collaboration with the energy sector to make it happen.
- Embody the above aspirations in our transport and community planning processes.
- Realise the potential of Big Data.
- Enhance the traveller experience for physically challenged as well as able bodied travellers, in both the city and the bush.
iMOVE and its partners look forward to sharing the progress being made in these areas at the iMOVE conference later this year (23—24 October 2024 in Brisbane).
Some related projects that have been initiated in recent weeks include:
- C-ITS national harmonisation and pre-deployment research
- Environmental impacts of Connected and Automated Vehicles
- Impact of Inland Rail on regional road and rail networks
- Impacts of eRideables on the transport task in WA
- Sustainable last kilometre food and beverage delivery in Perth

Let’s talk!
If you are involved in any of these transport improvement processes I encourage you to engage with iMOVE to explore how your efforts could be scaled and leveraged.
