Self-driving cars a ‘game changer’ for disabled Aussies, but they’ve got a kangaroo problem
There’s quite a bit of ground covered in this ABC article. Firstly there’s the tale a Darren and his experiences with Tesla’s Autopilot and difficulties in accessing transport, moving along to discussing a recently released article in Nature magazine about the safety advances (and areas of concern) that autonomous vehicles bring about. The articles than moves on to the difficulties of automated detection systems and Australian fauna, and closing with thoughts in an Australian context about autonomous vehicles and road safety, and how ready this country is for CAVs. Interviewed in the article are two experts working with iMOVE on projects, Amit Trivedi and Professor Michael Milford.

“Under new legislation expected to come into effect by early next year, privately owned e-scooters and other “personal mobility devices” including electric unicycles, or “monocycles”, will be treated in the same way as bicycles and will be able to be used on roads and bike paths.” The word footpath appearing in the title and body of the article sets off a few alarm bells.
