Future Transport Roadmap white paper: Open for your comments

What should Australia’s transport system look like over the next decade – and what do we need to do now to get there?

As part of its development of a Future Transport Roadmap, iMOVE has prepared a white paper on the direction of transport in Australia from stakeholder interviews conducted nationally.

We are inviting you and others in Australia’s transport sector to read it and contribute your perspective, including challenging its ideas.

The White Paper presents the emerging findings from iMOVE’s work with transport agencies, industry and research organisations. It looks at the opportunities and challenges facing the sector and identifies emerging priorities across four interconnected domains:

• Safety – towards zero road trauma and safer transport networks
• Productivity – improving network performance, reducing congestion and delays, and increasing resilience
• Accessibility – delivering more customer-centred, reliable and inclusive transport services
• Sustainability – reducing transport emissions and supporting the transition to a low-carbon transport system

It also highlights policy, regulation and governance as critical enablers. A particularly strong message from our engagement with stakeholders was that regulation, fragmented governance, data-sharing arrangements and investment models can be as important – and sometimes more important – than the availability of technology itself.

We would value your response to the areas raised in the white paper

Throughout the paper we have included 12 stakeholder validation questions to simulate responses.

You do not need to address every question, just choose those that are particularly relevant to your organisation or area of expertise.

We are particularly interested in hearing views that challenge, refine or add to the emerging directions outlined in the white paper to help us ensure that it reflects the realities, priorities and opportunities across Australia’s transport sector.

iMOVE has engaged Astrolabe Group to assist with the preparation of the Roadmap, and to receive and process the responses arising from this consultation.

About the roadmap

The roadmap will provide practical guidance for future research, policy and investment. While a key focus is on technological needs including digital, connectivity and automation, the roadmap will also reflect the evolving political, economic, social, environmental and legal contexts influencing new technology use, including CAVs.
