Connections: Micromobility and 50c public transport fares

On 20 August 2026 we held the latest in our series of project outcome webinars, Closing the loop on first/last mile transportation in Brisbane: Assessing the connection between micromobility and 50 cent public transport fares. Background

With Queensland’s 50 cent fare policy dramatically lowering the cost barrier to catching public transport, this project takes this opportunity to examine how e-bikes, e-scooters, and similar options interact with mass transit when price is no longer the obstacle.

The research involved building e-mobility parking infrastructure near a major transit station and testing different infrastructure and pricing scenarios to see what actually changes behaviour with public transport use.

Drawing on real-world travel behaviour observations and intercept surveys, the findings offer practical insights relevant not just to Brisbane but to cities around the world grappling with the same challenge.
