VIDEO: CAVs and the community
On 11 October 2022 we ran a webinar, Understanding the community’s desire to interact with Connected and Automated Vehicles, in which three iMOVE projects in the CAV sphere were discussed, by experts from CARRS-Q, Department of Transport and Main Roads (Queensland), and the University of South Australia. We recorded the webinar, and have embedded the video further down this page.
Those three iMOVE projects were:
- Ipswich Connected Vehicle Pilot: Safety and user perceptions evaluation (see the final report for this project at Ipswich Connected Vehicle Pilot: Final reports)
- Cooperative and Highly Automated Driving Safety Study
- Promoting community readiness and uptake of CAVs (the final report for this project will be available shortly)
The webinar panel
The webinar was moderated by Max Jamwal-Girdler, Principal Advisor (Governance & Communications) | Cooperative and Automated Vehicle Initiative at the Department of Transport and Main Roads (Queensland), and iMOVE’s Jackie King. Those presenting were:
- Professor Ioni Lewis – Principal Research Fellow, Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety, QUT
- Merle Wood – Principal Traffic Engineer, Department of Transport and Main Roads (Queensland)
- Dr Akshay Vij – Associate Professor, University of South Australia
In their presentations the speakers outlined the methods and scopes of these projects, after which was a Q&A session. Questions asked included comparing these programs with similar work taking place in other countries, additional information on project participants’ experiences, their attitudes to data privacy, and where the laws are in regard to deployment of CAVs on public roads in Australia.
